When the community name and theme were being created for this spectacular piece of woodlands in Eastern Carolina,
Weyerhaeuser desired to embody all that makes New Bern so remarkable…

…deep-rooted history. Community pride. Welcoming commerce setting. Long-lasting relationships. And, a vibrant Main Street. With the community site being just six miles from New Bern’s downtown, we considered the name West New Bern as the ideal complement to the city. Yet, a destination unto itself.

There were certain “must-haves,” of course. Above all, the partnerships formed with developers, builders, retail and restaurant operators, office tenants and industry. Weyerhaeuser is a company built on credibility, honesty and integrity. Therefore, Weyerhaeuser’s partners must align with these values to ensure West New Bern is the place to be for an unrivaled living, working and amenity-rich experience.

Every element of West New Bern has been intentionally planned to respect the community’s beginnings, including the use of indigenous trees and plantings. You will find loblolly pines, magnolia trees and sustainable materials throughout our first phase. It was also important to acknowledge significant individuals to New Bern, Craven County and Weyerhaeuser in the naming of our roadways.

We share this community vision with local residents, North Carolinians who frequent the city, families passing through on their way to the coast and visitors from all over the world. The City of New Bern exemplifies community spirit and livability. As a compliment, West New Bern presents a mixed-use destination community for The Next Direction in Carolina Living.
