I’ve written in previous posts about all that makes New Bern so remarkable to live. March is no exception, however there are too many special events to cover in this post. Suffice it to say March Madness could also describe New Bern’s events calendar in addition to the NCAA Basketball Tournament.

I am looking forward to attending a big party on Friday, March 16. The Rotary Club of New Bern is hosting Sham-Rockin’ 2018. The fundraiser, with food from The Chelsea, a live band and the North Carolina History Center at Tryon Palace as the backdrop, is sure to be a blarney blast!

Tryon Palace is a magnificent sight, any day of the year.

The next day on March 17, Tryon Palace is presenting a special “Outlander” tour. If you’ve ever seen the STARZ channel hit, you can now follow Claire’s and Jamie’s footsteps in North Carolina as they visit Tryon Palace. The tour is part of a special series occurring on the third Saturday of every month, now through November.

On Sunday, March 18, I plan to discover my inner interior designer at the New Bern Home and Garden Show. Since it is being held at the expansive New Bern Riverfront Convention Center, I fully expect there to be around 100 businesses to help me figure out what to do with my outdated bathroom, unappealing back deck and boring office space. Plus, I love seeing all the cool, innovative ideas for the DIYer.

This is just another reason why I love New Bern. In one weekend, I will party with the Irish, travel back in time with Scots and learn how to bring my Victorian-era home into this century. I will basically enjoy a United Kingdom trip without leaving New Bern. For those who know me, anytime I can experience a country without the air travel, I am one happy camper.
