The season also brings a tradition that calls for running shoes. On Saturday, December 5, 2026, Trail to Tryon returns with its fifth annual Holiday Half, 10K & 5K, supported by presenting sponsor Weyerhaeuser. Runners and walkers can choose their distance, bring a friend, and enjoy a December morning exploring New Bern at their own pace.
Starting and finishing near Tryon Palace and the North Carolina History Center, the courses take participants through downtown streets, waterfront parks and residential neighborhoods. Some will be chasing a personal best; others will be happy to cross the finish line with a friend. And for those who prefer cheering to running, there is plenty of room to be part of the fun from the sidelines.
The event benefits the wider community, with proceeds supporting local veterans through American Legion Post 539 in New Bern. These funds help veterans meet everyday needs, including rent, transportation, and groceries, offering practical support that continues long after race day.
